Make-a-Wish Tournament

The Sacramento, California Make-a-Wish Tournament consisted of three Competitive teams (open age group) and three Recreation teams (open age group).

The play in every game was excellent and very balanced.  The Competitive  division began with a 1 to 0 win for the eventual champion, "Tribe", managed by Ken Chavez.  The Tribe players were mostly made up from a team in the Sacramento Men's Senior Baseball League.  Second place was eventually awarded to the team managed by Justin Wentzel, by out-scoring Troy Newbold's "Your Local Sports Shop.com" (YLSS) Team, by one run in extra innings.

The Recreation Division also played five extremely close games with Gary Huizar's "Mosby Construction" team pulling out a 4 to 3 victory over Hal Young's team in extra innings.  The El Dorado fire fighter team managed by Adam Wilson was also very competitive, losing the semi-final game to Hal Young's team by one run.

The Tournament was played to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Sacramento-Northeastern California.  A number of organizations donated services and some sponsors stepped forward and the Tournament raised $1,355 for Make-A-Wish.  Everyone had a great time.  Championship T-Shirts were donated by KC Design of Elk Grove, CA and awarded to each of the Division champions.  The Haag Bat Company generously donated two bats to the tournament which were awarded to the second place teams.

Colorado State Champions 2009...  The Chiefs

On Saturday, September 19th 2009, 4 FastballTM teams met down in Superior, Colorado at Community Park for the CJ Fletcher Memorial Colorado State Tournament.  CJ Fletcher was a member of the Chiefs and played along side his older brother Nic for the past few FastballTM seasons.  CJ passed away this summer in a tragic car accident and his teammates and brother have been wearing the number 34 on their jerseys ever since to honor him.

The 4 teams out for the title in 2009 were the Thomenators managed by Tim Darlington, Sticks n' Bones managed by Jon Jardine, the Chiefs managed by Mike Case, and Legion of Doom managed by Sean Snider.   Everyone came out to play and it was a beautiful day for just that, FastballTM

The Chiefs met up with Sticks n' Bones in the championship game after losing to them in pool play.  The championship was under the lights and it was the Chiefs that got out to the quick start scoring 4 runs in the first inning, including Nic Fletcher stealing home. This is a play only attempted by the brave and light-footed and it proved too much to be overcome by their opponents.  The Chiefs were able to defend their title as Colorado State Champions to the delight of their many friends and family members in attendance.

After accepting their trophies and state champion hats the players threw their hands to the sky in recognition of CJ and the life that he led.  Balloons were later released by his loved ones and another Colorado state FastballTM tournament was concluded.  Until next year!

Below are the results of pool play and the championship game...
